Good article.
I keep saying that you have to be careful with conclusions about one guy.
It is a team. Myers was here when the team had three consecutive 6 goal against games.
I can't figure out why, in all the analysis of defencemen, Gorges gets a free pass.
He has been on the ice for the most goals against by far.

There is one fact that is not a variable. Myers is good.

We spend way too much time debating HOW good. Maybe that's why you wrote this very good piece.

Not sure what your point is about Myers. Their record over a long period of time is measurably better with him in the lineup. No fancy analytics needed here.

I think Gorges is a 4-5 guy on a good team. I think the fact that he has had some success playing top-pair minutes with Myers (and often looks poor without him) is another example of just how good Myers has been. I think he is moved before the end of the year for a giant haul. This should (almost) guarantee us a bottom 2 finish.

I agree with everything but the last part. As Mike pointed out, Zadorov and Ristolainen have yet to prove they can take the reigns as the top 2 defensemen.

Now I don't think this losing streak is entirely because Myers is hurt, however it's so blatantly obvious he's missed it's not even funny

excellent article as always

although facts like these have no place on this site

when the Sabres are finally making runs at the cup we will all be very happy that we have an affordable top 4 d man in Myers until then he will be the fans whipping boy

anyone with a brain can tell the sabres are a much better team with myers in the lineup

the $50 question is will the team be better with myers in the lineup, or the return Murray can get for him

Honestly, unless he is moved for an impact player, which may include having to add another piece to get that player, I wouldn't do it

if it's a prospect and a first, I'd pass

I would hope if/when Myers is moved that they would bring in a vet to play with Gorges so that the kids wouldn't have to play top-pairing minutes.

I have to say that I've never been so happy to make a road trip and see my team get its ass kicked like that last night.

Wouldn't it depend on the prospect? If it is a guy that is in junior's now I would probably pass (although there are a couple of exceptions). But if it was someone in the minors (Mantha?) I'd strongly consider it.
